Ubuntu problems

Hi peoples, I have recently switched to Ubuntu 8.1 KDE 4 and Have a problem with the game engine. When I try running a game made in blender it loads about half the polys but none of the others show up. It doesn’t seem to have anything to do with my graphics drivers because I installed them myself and checked them so does anyone have a solution?

p.s. It didn’t do this on Windows XP.

Can you post a file which demonstrates the problem (works in xp but not in kubuntu)? This will allow other people to test it out.

If you installed blender using the terminal, it will install blender 2.46 by default. Currently, most of use are using 2.48a which will cause problems in 2.46.

Solution: got to the blender.org and install the latest blender build.

Well… that’s not exactly true. What you mean is that if you use the blender which came pre-installed, or installed blender through (k)ubuntu’s repositories (like apt-get or synaptic), you get 2.46.

Solution is still valid though (assuming this is the problem).

I tried blender 2.48 and 2.46 neither of them work and I can run the same exact file on my sister’s computer (XP) but not on mine…I am working on setting up my hard drive so that it can dual-boot into window and ubuntu, maybe this will fix my problem?
