Ubuntu space-02.jpg and Prototype

I just started using Ubuntu with Blender and this is my second model after switching from Windows (and Blender).

The background is one of the space backgrounds that came with Ubuntu but the space plane was made in Blender.

I call it the Mocking Bird . . . don’t ask why . . .

Anyways I like this jpg, I hope you dig it, too.

I know this is a very plain model but I’m still trying to learn how to use the Gimp properly so, I can’t make textures that are good enough yet. I will try and come up with something soon and UV map it some doors and greeble (maybe) or just give it a paint job.

By the way, does anyone know of a good tut for making a basic city with gray scale bump maps and using the noise button? I thought I saw a tutorial for this somewhere (once upon a time) but now I can’t find anything. Any help with that is appreciated. Thanks . . .

nice render and all but i really doubt that any space craft would have rough edges like that… might wona fix those as its not aerodynamic to have all those.

Try the documentation site or the wiki.

Basically, you add a texture as the bump map to your material, and use NOR for the texture mapping, increase the NOR slider as high as you want.
Hmm… and click the noise button I think at least, you used to. Not sure if that still works, I’ve forgotten the details too

ahh but there’s no air in space. Maybe the edges are rough to … um … let’s see … deflect asteroids! Ya that’s it! Asteroids and radar waves!

set the aircraft to smooth and put some subsurf on… and you might wanna work a little bit more with the materials.
