Check this out!
I’m looking forward to this!
This just might be the most wonderful thing. Ever.
It might just be.
I don’t understand how it differs from regular Ubuntu
well, aside from the fact they’re going to compile and bundle a bunch of audio/video/graphic/multimedia creation stuff with it, they are also planning on adding jack and the real time kernel patches (or something like that) specifically to boost performance when dealing with professional audio tools.
can I use it on my microsoft operating system? =)
(don’t hurl da heavy rocks at meh)
I hope your joking… but it would replace your operating system.
So is it trimmer down as far as system resources go compared to the regular distro?
Going to buy a new HD for Linux only this April…
I hope your joking that you don’t know that I’m joking…
Just think where the Linux movement will be in the next 10 years.
Windoze will just look like a bad dream me thinks. :eyebrowlift:
Windows, OS X, Linux… who cares?
I say: if it works, leave it be.
my only problem with linux: I’M TOO STUPID TO USE IT RIGHT!!!
I gave up trying to get drivers for my video card a while ago, and am running windoze until I get a new computer (hopefully not too far off)
Also, the “if it aint broken, don’t fix it” train of thought bothers me… why not “if it ain’t perfect, it’s broken”? that’s closer to my philosiphy… too bad I’m too lazy to act on it at all.
Well for one, I care.
Also, if it works, look for ways to make it work better, be cheaper (or even free) and make it available to everyone, along with the knowledge and capability for the end user to make changes on his own if need be. (at least, thats my personal take on things).
I understand where you’re coming from. I mean I actually crashed X a few times (to the point where I had to go out and find a fresh xconfig file just to boot right), when trying to install nvidias’ “proprietary” drivers.
It took a few IRC sessions to get it right, but once I did, everything else was relatively easy.
You’ll be happy to know that Ubuntu is now planing on including all these drivers by default into their up and coming distro variations, so it won’t be a problem anymore.
Ubuntu has really done alot to push linux further into the mainstream. A driving force really.
Sorry to bump an old thread but does anyone have an update?
It’s April 29 and the site hasn’t changed, so I’m thinking they’re behind a bit.
EDIT: Oh, duh, found this link.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the release of Ubuntu Studio 7.04 will be delayed. Progress is happening rapidly, but we will not be estimating the duration of the delay.
It’s an interesting project… I just wish people would hold off announcing until AFTER they actually have something to show…
Personally, I’m not for the split of distributions. The regular Ubuntu is just as good. If you want your favorite studio tools, then get them like you normally would. If you want a snazzy theme, they can be found at art.gnome.org and gnomelook.org .
Right, I had already installed Ubuntu on the laptop, and I was about to do it on the desktop when I realized that there would be no real benefit. I mean, I’ve got Windows looking like Linux already. Ubuntu would only make it so that it would be harder to set up my drivers, access proprietary media, and slowdown my rendering. I keep my windows box pretty darn secure and I haven’t had a virus in years. The only reason I installed Ubuntu on the laptop was because of that ati bug - which made it worth it.
Don’t get sucked into the hype folks.
Looking at the package list, it COMES with Blender!
Recent comparisons show that it speeds up rendering. Didn’t you read the Blendernation article on it?
most if not all links are broken. wiki is non-existent. all you got is a hope and a dream, and a nice splash page graphic. I won’t be holding my breath.
I have not only read it, but made my own comparisons.
LMAO!!!
OMG!!
it is ubuntu with a matching theme!!!
hey, I dont care what they call it,
as long as it is not the usual “Ubuntu/baby sh!t” brown theme, I will be happy.
for all existing ubuntu users… just set you synaptic to the apt-repository, and do a :
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
from commandline… have fun!
