hmmmmm

NOTE TO SELF: UK blender heads may be too busy at the momentā€¦

Okā€¦ if your in the UK, and you read this, please get in touch. I am currently building www.blenderuser.co.uk (previews at http://www.blenderuser.co.uk/forum/portal.php ) as a resource for UK users.

As I said before, it is a new website for people from the UK to discuss blender and work towards usergroup meetings.

I hope to launch fully next week some time, comments and feedback would be usefull!

J

Hmm, didnā€™t notice this one. Currently residing in Bham myself

Hi Ianā€¦
At work today I had one of our outsourced techieā€™s call it Barmingham, which made me laugh.
Do you know any other blender users in your area?
What do you think of the site so far?
J

Me and midgetmike live in wales if that helpsā€¦

Got that right, managed to sneak this one in while the boss aint looking

Im in Leicester at the moment not too far from Birmingham.

Nice looking site julesd-g6, ill check it out properly when I get home.

Last time I checked, Wales is still part of the UK, so yes of course it helpsā€¦ Please feel free to register on the link I have posted above. Maybe we can setup a usergroup meet for Wales at some point. Your input would be invaluable with this!

Say thanks to the boss man too when you get the chance :))

Looks like we are already getting a splattering of interest from the Midlands!.. Again another potential location for a meet at some point.

Why thanksā€¦ glad you like itā€¦ As above, please feel free to sign up on the site to contribute!
(oooohā€¦ and tell any other UK blender users you know as wellā€¦)
J

Iā€™m from the UK, England > Bristol to be exact, though I hardly use blender now >.>

I Donā€™t think your site will be very sucessfull, though. Arranging usergroups is something that should suppliment a large site such as BA, not on its own.

Tis a very nice looking site

Barmingham, hahaha

Maybe, though it depends on how many uk users there are.

Didnā€™t notice this thread, actually:o:p
Iā€™m in Edinburgh:D

All that nay-sayingā€¦ pah! I figure if you dont try, youā€™ll never know.

I went to blender con in amsterdam this year. I found it truely surprising and refreshing that all these very clever people would get together sort this event out and do such a great job. Apperently people thought the first blender con wouldnā€™t work either. So be it!

I see some of you guys have signed up alreadyā€¦ thanks, good workā€¦ And thanks for your kind comments IanCā€¦

Keep checking backā€¦ it will start filling up with content over the next couple of weeks (i have some stuff in mind and a week off work next week too)

Thanks again, J

Well, I did say it is more suited as an addition for a site such as BA, not that a usergroup meeting in the uk isnt plausable. The fact you have to advertise it on BA is evident of that, but there is only so many times you can do that before it wears thin on the community thus, for it to be really sucessful it needs to be supported by a larger site.

Thereā€™s also alot one can see just from that single quote alone.^ :

  • Itā€™s in amsterdam, yet you who are from the UK went. therefore we can assume Itā€™s not limited to a single area. (dispite yours being UK, itā€™s really just england youā€™re tailoring for)
  • It was blender con, an official get together held by the developers and experts once a year. They have built this event up every year, and quite costly too. You are probabily an average user? with an average personā€™s budget if any. Do you even have a possible place to hold meetings yet? or is this one of those ā€œirc usergroupsā€
  • Since itā€™s official, they can use their official site, the one where most blender users downloaded their application to advertise the event. Instant hits baby! Instant trust. We know the experts are going to be thereā€¦
  • You might be a serial killer and your going to kill us all.
Good luck on the site though.

im from the UK, im from the capital ā€˜Newcastleā€™ :eyebrowlift: hehe

hows every one doing, ill join, most blenderheads are from overseas, would be cool to meet up with some and have a modeling competition :RocknRoll:

::robertT, your from UK right? if so you cant come, we need a chance :o::

robertT from the UK? Awesome, i can stalk him and find out where he keep all those clones that he obviously uses to produce that insane volume of artwork.

Im in Derbyā€¦ nice site!

hey, as jake said i live in wales, born in the vocally challenged city of the world (IanC knows where im on about right?)

I THINK I have answered all these questions with a post on the new siteā€¦ http://blenderuser.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8

Well all except maybe a couple I should elaborate onā€¦ ā€œYou might be a serial killer and your going to kill us all.ā€ Well, you did catch me out with this one Sherlock. And I would have got away with it if it wasnā€™t for those pesky kids. Dammit.

As for your first comment, ā€œitā€™s really just england youā€™re tailoring forā€, yes your right, I only kill English people. No , but seriouslyā€¦ I donā€™t understand where you got this idea that I would only cater for England. I seem to remember posting a comment just before yours saying "Last time I checked, Wales is still part of the UK, so yes of course it helpsā€¦ "

On a more serious noteā€¦ Thanks to everyone else for the encouragement. I can see a few have already signed up with I can only count as being a bonus, as I know I have still got a long way to go before fully launching. If you have ideas and want to help, please let me know. Of course on blenderartists.co.uk I am known simply as JulesD.

Thanks, Jules

followed by ā€œMaybe we can setup a usergroup meet for Wales at some point.ā€. the key words i picked up on were ā€œmaybeā€ and ā€œat some pointā€, which is basically: ā€œyes, but not at the momentā€.

I THINK I have answered all these questions with a post on the new siteā€¦
Blendernation had a lot of ā€œofficial supportā€ from larger sites, which is what Iā€™ve been saying the past 3 posts that your site will need to be sucessful /sucessful fastā€¦ The founder of blendernations also has a strong position /reputation with the blender community as a whole and can get the hits. Again, his site isnā€™t limited to a single country and itā€™s also a news plug, which as whole is more usful (website sense) in several ways.

It would probabily do you some good in getting blender nation to make a post about your ā€œuk usergroup siteā€.

Making your site more generalised for usergroups where you personally can focus on the UK and other people can focus on user groups for other countries may also help as it makes the site larger and more noticable. quite a few people end up posting asking if thereā€™s a usergroup in their area etc so it is something that could workā€¦

I have thought about this already and will be chasing a up the guys at blendernation as soon as blenderuser.co.uk launches properā€¦ There is no point in getting them to post up until the site is readyā€¦ while the front page still says ā€œunder constructionā€ there is no reason for blendernation to write about it.

Maybeā€¦ but if you look through http://blender.org/cms/Websites.7.0.html youā€™ll see there is representation for several languages and locations. Although english is represented well, it is represented as a language rather than the UK location if you see what I mean. Of course on full launch I will be submitting to be added to this list too
I donā€™t really want to dilute and become a usergroup site for ā€˜anywhereā€™ in the world because it gets outside the bounds of things I can actually help with. What I can do is learn from the work I am doing at the moment and may be able to help other people if they want to set up other websites for their locations. In the mean time, blenderuser.co.uk will stick to trying to help the UK user base.
I already run a global website (shameless cheap plug for www.global6.net ) and find if you generalise too much, it becomes hard to focus on delivering what you really want to deliver.

Thanks, J

Hi Iā€™m Claire,
Iā€™m from Newcastle and I havenā€™t used Blender for a few months now :o (Iā€™m using Maya for a class that I am teaching), but Iā€™m about to get back into it and check out the video and compositing tools as an alternative to After Effects and Premierefor my new job.
Looking forward to the website.
Claire.
