Um, why the massive change?

So I happily upgraded to the new version of blender, only to find that most of the buttons I knew how to use, no longer do the same things anymore, and my question is, why so big a change? Wheres the best place to go to re learn blender?

To answer “Why change?”
In short - “Blender 2.4x is terrible in comparison”
The long answer:

@ Manok: Don’t despair !
I was quite disturbed by the new 2.5x series too and it took me a while to re-discover Blender through the 2.5 version. But it really is worth the effort of re-learning !

Best thing to do in my opinion: try to manage 4/5 hours of calm some day and open a new file with a nice cuppa and a fresh, relaxed mind !

Most of the basic concepts you are used to are still there. Almost every change made was a huge improvement.

Also: Where have you been for the last two years? :stuck_out_tongue: You should test out alpha and beta builds now and then, you’ll find out about these changes much earlier.

I don’t know where these things are gone ?

  1. Quicktime Render ?
  2. IPO Curve Extend has 4 submenus? where are they I did not found?
  3. Console Window to keep Track what is happening or marking in scripts?
and please make the new version 2.6 like with same gui with 249b and add new menus
  1. As far as I know QuickTime has been dropped
  2. No Idea
  3. Help->Console or if you click on the button in the lower/upper left to switch between e.g. 3D View and Node Editor, there is a entry for scripts
  1. Dropped. Reason has something to do with licenses…
  2. It’s hidden by default for a good reason.

“and please make the new version 2.6 like with same gui with 249b and add new menus”
That would be the dumbest thing to do, since the reason of change was to run away from 2.4x’s bad GUI design in the first place.
And it’s impossible now too.
2.6 is almost finished, and now in beta, they will not make such drastic changes.

Great I think Developers are watching it.
Please see some more problems.
Why Import and Export are so many in 249 and lots less in 259
See the long list of Import in 249

and see the small list of Import in 259

same in Export
and where is save rendered Image

and see where are the Extend of IPO Curve. I have create some thing in 249b and append in 259 that works

Why Import and Export are so many in 249 and lots less in 259

Import/Export, enable the ones you want in the User Preferences / Addons panel

  1. IPO Curve Extend has 4 submenus? where are they I did not found?
In Graph Editor look at Channel / Extraplolation menu entry and adding a Cycles Modifier (graph editor properties panel N) to your F-Curve

I stick to the older version of blender for now. (2.4X)

Why not now?
Then interface is well organized , easier to use, new features
what else do you want?

save image as in the image editor, where the rendering takes places.

Yoda: If you mean the ability to save a render result out from the image editor then just go to Image > Save as Image.

Make sure to have the Render Result visible (active).
