Unable to allocate vertex buffer. Is there a way to increase limits, if the HW has the capacity?

I’m trying to generate excessively large terrain from splat maps created in Gaea 2. I’m talking beyond 4096x4096 grid resolution. But then I’m greeted with following error in Blender console:

Unable to allocate vertex buffer. Most likely an out of memory issue.

And the object is not displayed in the scene. It’s there, generated, but simply not visible in the viewport.

I have 192Gb of RAM and 24Gb GPU. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I have a feeling it should handle a bit more than this.

Is there a way to up memory limits in Blender or somewhere else?

You already know the reason. The vertex buffer is limited to a maximum size per object and you are exceeding that buffer size. Split your terrain into tiles.

Note that this is a graphics API level issue, you could buy the most expensive gpu in the world and it wouldn’t make a difference.

Thank you, will do!
