Unable to split screen horizontally

I’m using Ubuntu Linux, latest 2.48 Blender.

I can’t split the screen horizontally. The resize arrows which need to appear with MMB don’t show… only for areas within the main window, but not on the edge.

Blender in Windows does not have this problem.

A workaround is that I can split the screen vertically, they drag one side or the other so it is really thin. The vertical line is “splitable”.

But this is an annoying wase of screen estate, and does not always work with other peoples file.

Is there a way to fix this?

It’s fine here on Ubuntu 64 bit. MMB, RMB, horizontal and vertical, everything as it should be.

Let me test it again… nope still broke.

…sigh. [reboot]

Nope. Still broke again. Come to think of it, I’m really sick of seeing this issue.

Hmmmm - y’think it’s a 32 bit version bug?

Nope - I found it.

By default, I’m launching Blender into glorious full screen, like blender -W which is what happens when I double click the blender executable.

If I launch blender with blender -w it is not quite as full screen, but the split screen horizontal works fine.

Possibly you still have a problem; I can do all the same stuff in fullscreen mode.
…-for what its worth.

Of course it’s “worth”… at least I know that Blender itself ain’t the problem… gives me a new angle.

…I’m wondering if it’s to do with my gnome theme or 3D enabled desktop… you know, borders too thin or something.

Hey Organic are you using KDE (I don’t have) or Gnome? I’ve just found the problem happens in my default 3D-enabled Gnome desktop, but does not happen when in failsafe Gnome.

Just to let you know I am running the New Beta Ubuntu with gnome, compiz (3d Desktop and all  ) and emerald. Yet it works fine for me in 2.48.
Cheers

Hi, sorry I’m late back; I keep forgetting I should sleep sometime.

I use Gnome.

I was wondering, what about the monitor setup; if you bring the edges in a little bit does it help?

That’s a good idea, although I’m using a Dell laptop. Interesting that no one else has this issue. I used the “envy-ng” application to install the proprietary nvidia drivers, and I’m thinking it has to be either a ardware issue (only works withfull screen on non-failsafe) or a theme related one (e.g. screen borders etc).

Complete install of newer version of Ubuntu (dropping older Hardy) and same problem.

This time I’ve narrowed it down a bit more. If CompizConfig settings manager, if “rotating cube” is enabled, then blender loses its ability to “split area” from left / right sides of the screen.

I entertained the idea of using Ubuntu repositories for perhaps a bg-fixed Ubuntu specific version, but the Blender I see there is outdated.
