Back from holidays, I had some free day in which I did a personal projects. As sometimes I cannot resist nostalgia, I watched some Duck Tales episodes and had the inspiration for this image. I think is close to be ready, but I wanted to hear some opinion before closing it. The render is quite noisy for now, but should be enough to give me some comment or critic
The thing I am mostly working on now is the material of the coins, but if you have other stuff to point out it will be nice to hear!
It’s realy nice.
But i think the banknote are a bit too flat and hard like concrete. Maybe try to make them look more like paper with the cloth simulator ?
But I like it, it’s great
Keep it up !
Thanks heol! Yeah you are right the banknotes need some tweaking. Maybe the cloth sim is too much for this, but I will do something with them! Thanks for the hint!
The hair on scrooge’s face is too pronounced. Makes him look like a rag doll or carpet. I like the hair more on the sides of the face that are more smooth. (Scrooge’s actual “hair” looks good).
The left eye is non reflective (excluding the pupils of the eyes) but the right eye is shiny which is kind of a weird imbalance.
2.5. The left eye is grey instead of white?
The vignette seems a little too strong. It makes the shadows on the portrait too dark and such. I’d think it’d be better if more subtle.
Don’t know what the green floor is supposed to be, looks kinda weird but that could be just me. I expect more of shiny floors in banks.
Wood floor in the background looks off, but that could just be the depth of field.
Coins in the front could have engravings or something, but that is just me nitpicking because I can’t find anything else to critique.
In generale I like the hair… the fact that we actually see the fur is something I was looking for. Maybe I could try to make the material look softer.
The eyes are using the same material. I think I could decrease the overall reflectivity.
2.5. Again, the material is the same. Maybe I should tweak the material so that it looks more white then grey.
You are right, I decreased the effect!
What do you mean it looks off?
It is supposed to be a green moquette. Maybe the hair are slightly too big, I will see if I can work a bit on them.
I did a better render with some changes, like banknotes, coins material, and some work on the proportions of the hands.
Thanks for the comment sundialsvc4!
is the copyright a problem even for this “made for fun” images? I mean, I am not selling this or making any revenue on it…
For the floorboards I meant that they usually have some bump-mapping to them like some interior renders on the forums but here they just look flat (but, like I said that could be just the depth of view / focus).
Great improvement! Still a bit dark around the edges (vignette) for my taste but it’s nothing too blatant or overpowering.
Just noticed the slight glow of the money piles in the vault. Just some nitpicking, but I think there could be more depth to the vault (for example:low poly money piles behind the money piles ; or a wall to show where it ends). It seems to have lower detailing compared to the rest of the picture. (Just my opinion though, once again :o)
@ Patdngo: Yeah this floor boards actually did not “bump” very well. I will try to increase the effect. About the green moquette I took inspiration from this image for the room. Maybe however the “fur” is too strong.
I agree about the more detailed valut. I can add some texture on the walls and maybe increase the depth as you suggested! Also I am noticing now that it is a carpet, and not a moquette as I thought before, so the wooden perimeter is wrong… Still is not so ugly, but I will see if I can fix it.
Anyway, this is an updated render. Here I worked on some proportion of Scrooge which I did not like, and I slightly worked on the material of the short feathers and the eyes. I also changed a bit the settings of the moquette particle system, but as said before maybe it still need some work… Maybe I will try a texture approach.
