We’ve been trying to create a small game in Unity. I export rigged-animated characters from blender but the armature doesn’t show up in Unity. I’ve tried all fbx settings and also tried to export directly as blend file.

What exactly happens when you place your character into a scene? Unity doesn’t use “armatures,” like Blender; instead, each bone is interpreted as an empty transform. Have you double checked your import settings in the Rig tab?
