I have two altered cubes, and am trying to make one white and the other black. But when one is selected in object mode, the other is selected, and when only one is selected in edit mode, the mesh color is changed on both.
I clicked P to separate them, but the color is still altering both of them. How can I only change mesh color for one?
It sounds like the same material is still applied to both objects, I belive there is a way to unlink them in the material panel but I havent really gotten very far in my studies…
I use 2.5 so the process may be different, but i just split the objects with the same material, in the material panel for me it had the material name then a 2 an f a + and an x symbol, If i click on the 2 it makes the selected objects material unique and then the material can be changed without affecting the other…
Or you can switch the material from “Data” to “Object” (In the material context in a cramped little drop down). That way you can apply the material to the Object which links to the mesh, not the mesh itself. This is useful if you still want to share the mesh data, but not the material.
