Unwanted additional edges and vertices

I’m going by the Blender Tutorial 2010 (where you learn to create Kara).
I find that around the neck, I get these unwanted extra edges and vertices and have no idea why they form or how to get rid of them.
And on top of that, the second time I tried they also appeared at the shoulders and hips. I did my best to work around them until it became to obvious to continue;

How do I stop these from appearing? And am I able to sort this out or will I be forced to start this mesh from scratch?

And on top of that, the second time I tried they also appeared at the shoulders and hips.
So what was the operation you were doing when they appeared ?

Well I’m not sure when they appeared, but I first noticed them when I try to scale/rotate/move an edge or line and find that half the mesh doesn’t follow it, as if it was detached from that part of the mesh.

Here’s an example of the hip one.

It looks like you have those two edges overlapping. Reposition and then merge them.

Maybe you’ve accidentaly hit V with edges selected, and ripped them apart?
If you select all vertices and use Remove Doubles it should get rid of any doubled but unmoved geometry.

As for the messed up areas… often the fastest thing to do is to delete the problem areas and just rebuild it with some Fill and Extrude.

Thanks for the help, will give it a go now!
:slight_smile:
Edit: Remove Doubles did it! Oh wow, thanks for that, encn~
You saved my mesh! :stuck_out_tongue:
