Unwrap bug - Not actually unwrapping?

Blender 3.6.0

Hi! I’m making a post because I had an issue in Blender, and I didn’t find anything about it on the internet.

Basically, sometimes when I’m in edit mode, doing my seams for unwrapping, for some reason, the unwrapping looks completely broken like I had no seams at all. I often do seams first, then collapse modifiers like subdivision or mirror.

Smart UV Project also gives wrong results. The mesh ends up being not unwrapped and stays an overlapping uncut mess in the UV editor.

I got not clue why this happens, but a solution I found was to just delete the UVMap in Data, and make a new one. The unwrapping works as intended afterward. Even if I undo until I got the old UVMap, the problem is gone too. Maybe it’s linked to the new UV improvements lately? Anyway, here’s a quick solution for anyone with the same problem.

This is a bit general… do you can provide any example… ? I did had sometimes in the past a models where it was better to unwrap → reset the UV’s to get rid of the mess which was done before ( by me or by someone else… )… but this didn’t align with any newer versions of blender… In fact i do have less problems like that… ( so maybe the models i do use got better, i just litter bad models or even i got better with this :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: ).

Also: …with 3.6.5 this might also be less of a problem ??

I can’t provide examples, because I can’t reproduce this. I noticed additionally that in the uv editor, in face selection, the middle dots to select the faces are all over the place, and restarting blender helps to fix this issue. No errors in console. I use uvpackmaster to pack things, but it happens before using it. It’s not a major issue though.
