unwrapping deformed

hello everyone,

I have a little problem.
I’m new to UV mapping and I watched and read a lot of tutorials but now I have made a simple model but I just can’t get it right.
I want to apply a brick texture but when i unwrap the model it gets totaly deformed.
Here you see the wireframe of te model:

How should I unwrap this and apply my texture to it?

A couple of points, make sure your axis scales are all the same (Ctrl+A / scale) and for non organic objects its generally best to use Conformal instead of the default Angle Based as the UV unwrap method. You’ll also need to apply seams to allow the mesh to unfold cleanly.
