UPDATE: My entry for WeirdHat's compositing (WIP)

http://www.geocities.com/theeth/DirectLink.html it’s a 230K DivX

Some of you might recognize the robotic spider as some of my earlier work. I’ll probably do a second entry with more original content now that I got the feeling of it.

So, what do you think?

PS: it’s a WIP because I need to rework the shadow and finish the motion at the end.

Hi theeth.

A couple of suggestions.

The first is, it’s rather hard to judge the quality of the work because the compression artifacts and the fact that the video is small (looks tiny on my 19" running at 1280x1024 and the quality is not good enough to enjoy it playing at double the size. Could you possibly post a larger/better quality version?

Secondly, the lighting on the spider doesn’t look quite right to me. I would personally like to see a little more illumination on the darker parts of the spider. Not brightly lit of course, just so there isn’t an abrupt transition from bright on top to pure darkness on the bottom. A look at the other objects in the room will tell you that even the undersides of the objects have some light being reflected onto them. There is so much light and so many light colored surfaces that the parts of the spider that are not directly lit would still receive some reflected light. The light streaming into the room is very bright so adding a bit of light to the rest of the spider wouldn’t take away from the effect.

For those of you who don’t know what this is for, http://www.weirdhat.com/contest/

good, i’ve been out of the loop for a few days and didn’t know the contest had started

Question: Must the entry be done completely in Blender?

Nice entry,

I think light is right…

Here’s an updated version:

from my friend’s server.

 I don’t really see a difference between the 2nd and the first one

But I like it anyway, I think the lighting is ok

Maybe some more action? Only thing I could say about this one. I like it.

  • Stungun

the second one has supposidly more well defined shadows and better lighting.

I need to polish the ending, indeed.

Yeah, and we want blood and gore too.

Wait a minute, who am I anyway?

Oh well, gotta go, sorry to have bothered you.
