Updated 21/2/03 Doc Octo's sidekick. Blender created.

Hi everyone, Latest update with armatures in my last post of this thread.

I’ve been modeling a charcter for a competition. We have to design and build a sidekick for an existing superhero. In my case I decided to create a side kick for Doctor Octopus. I have modeled the telescopic tentacles that Doc Octo’s famous for but they are not included in this render.

UPDATE: Sorted rigging problems:

You can find my progress on the head here : Head progress

Thanks in advance to any who may offer their advice.

Nice work so far!!!

Not much i can suggest to improve it (other than working on the crotch area). Good musculature job, the chest needs to have a little more middle indentation. And i think the thighs could be a bit longer and show the muscles a bit better. But other than that good model, i will definatly look forward to seeing this guy finished!!!

Matt

Blend on, and blend well!!!

ahhh, I love doc octopus, this looks great so far!
hope you put more detail in the legs and what’s the head gonna look like?

Wow, that’s a very good job man !!

There’s nothing more to say about it … his arms are perfect.
Are you gonna animate him when it’s finished ?

Serialsiner.

That´s really good! Only suggestion is more detail on legs, they are not quite as detailed as the arms are. Good luck with the rest!

Thanks for the comments people. Hopefully I’ve sorted out the things you mentioned.

Check first post for link to new update.

Thanks again.

Great modelling work. Looks fantastic!

No crits at all. Just keep on going.

Nice!

very squat and muscular :o

Superpowers?

Stefano

Only two critics: the two pectoralis muscles should be not joined in the center and the forearms bend inside while usually they bend the opposite.
BTW, very nice model!

Env

Stefano, super powers are yet to be confirmed.

Env current pose is unrigged, as soon as I have rigged him, the arms and everything else will look more natural.

I have nearly finished the head : Head progress

It’s a multi-view image of the same head. Eyes, ears and inside of mouth to be completed.

Thanks in advance to any who may offer their advice.

An amazing job so far. The only comment I’m making is that the shoulder muscle is a little square (from the side view) and the belly button is a little split. One last thing. Sidekick? Yeah right. This guy should be running the show.

cheers, munkey-mike, I have tweaked the shoulders today, but I haven’t updated a body image yet.

Thanks for the pointer and I think he might defeat Doc Octo without tentacles. Might have to tone him down bit, which would be shame.

Latest update, created arm connons, boots and costume. Chest armour thinned as suggested.

Rigging and cannon arms to come next.

That´s really amazingly good modelling-work there! Keep on going! Only crit from me is that his breast-muscles are way to “thick”. They must be like half a meter or something :o ! Otherwise, he kicks ass!

Hi again,

I’ve started to rig the character, but it’s starting to fry my brain.

Progress:-

Does anybody have a recommended method for armatures? Is there an auto rigger about for Blender? I couldn’t work the RVK setup system that’s available.

(Not quite sure why he’s flicking a bird!!)

Thanks for any advice you may be able to give.

Just had a look at u r latest offering, very nice… will it eventually be animated ?

Madyorky

Madyorky,

For the competition this model is for, it won’t be animated. The character will be posed and a 180 degree camera sweep around the model has to be submitted, but no more anim than that.

However, I am trying to rig the character fully so I can do some animation after the comp is over. So I shall post some animation as soon as it’s done.

Hello again, I have spent today sorting out his rigging problems.

This is a small update showing both arm cannons, I hope to improve on the ‘Pulse’ beams as well as textures.

Thanks

Sonix.

Cool
His boots looks too flat, but I guess that could be due to lighting.

  1. pofo

Pofo, thanks for spotting the squashed boots. I have since fattened them up and nearly got rid of my rigging problems.

This is a small update with a few poses, External forum jump and a pointless wireframe version.

Sorry for the linking, and thankyou to all of you who have kindly helped me with this project.
