Updated MD2 export script

Thanx for the URL. The mdl importer on Jean-Baptiste’s site is very easy to use. But I don’t see an mdl exporter. Do you know if he’s posted somewhere or is planning to post an mdl exporter. I’m not sure how to contct him.

Hey Bob, I just recently tried out your MD2 exporter for Blender, and I am having trouble with it messing with the geometry after the model is exported. I am using Blender 2.40 with version 0.16 of the exporter, and have tried several different models. If I open your .blend file you posted a link to, and do an export into an MD2 file, I end up with something like this when I look at it in a viewer (I’ve used an md2viewer and my own code using a MD2 Loader with Xith3D). Have you seen anything like this or have any ideas what would be causing this?

It looks like some of the triangles are not being drawn, or they are being drawn backwards (making them invisible to you). I’ll get an MD2 viewer and see what I can find.

Cheers,

Bob

Thanks. I didn’t think to do this before, but here is a link to the MD2 file:

To get this, I just opened the .blend file you posted at the beginning of this thread, and then ran the script to export it to an MD2 file. Also, I don’t know if this would help any, but if I load the model into the MD2 Viewer then try to load the skin, the program crashes…

Bob,
this question is a bit out of place here, but I don’t know where else I should ask it.
Do you still work on the md3 import/export and the bsp import/export scripts?
I really like them :D.
Greetings,
Mohij

Hi bob,

Am I missing something or the animation doesn’t work with your last script md2_import.py bundled with blender (2.40 and 2.41).
I have mentioned it in this thread :
https://blenderartists.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=59942

Regarding Mohij comment about MD3 import/export, I say : “+1”

Thanks Bob for all the good work

Excuse me for the previous post, the animation is imported. It is only that I’m new to Blender and I start to understand the different types of animations (shape animation versus object animation …).

Just for your info, there are actually some people interested by MD3 import/export and there are some script derivated from the bob one in this thread :

Hey great job on this Bob!

Is there another place to download this? The link is not working from my server…

I’m now getting into OpenGL programming so this will be helpful for me since I can load md2 models with textures and animate them. I used to use 3D Gamestudio and I really enjoy using blender for all the modelling.

Thanks!

I’m in the process of moving right now so my main machine is down. It’ll probably be up some time this weekend.

Cheers,

Bob

For me the script that comes with Blender 3.41 does not work, it completely ruins the geometry… Does anyone know why this is happening? I made a simple vase with blender and exported it with the bundled script and when i opened it with Quake 2 Modeler the geometry was completely messed up…

Can you post images of (a) the model rendered in blender, (b) rendered by Quake, and © point out specifically each problem?

:expressionless: Strange… Because the model was useless, i automatically deleted it… But when i tried it again, with exactly the same options it worked…

:expressionless: Sorry for the false positive… But still the exporter does not always work… :expressionless:

It happened again!
