Upshot Knothole (Updated 26-1)

Well…I thought of a decent name for it but my modeling skills don’t do it justice. Any of you familiar with the history of the U.S. nuclear program will find the title familiar.

Anyhow…I decided to make some kind of tactical fighter ship and after some doodling and some thinking I started modeling this:

Its got extremely aggressive big engines for its size and a small wingspan which puts its center of gravity in such a place that it would be highly unstable in atmospheric flight. But this gives it great dog-fighting capabilities. At least thats the story I’m sticking too.

I’m going to do a couple different versions…one thats really beat up like it’s been through combat, and a slightly modified model with clean shiny texturing that would serve as some sort of escort for V.I.P. ships. I may even make a “police” version and a weaponless high-speed version which would be a bit more sleek with slightly larger engines.

But for right now I have to make the base mesh and I have to decide exactly where the variations will be in the models so you can see clearly that they’re different machines with different roles. The texturing will probably be the easiest way to reflect that but…I want some details to change as well so they all have their own personality.

Anyway…thats a lot of conceptual discussion without much to show for it because I can’t sketch worth a damn. So you’re stuck with that image for now if you’re curious. Sorry guys!

Interesting, but a little hard to look at.
I think the wings (to both sides of the engine) should look more like one consistent shape (a little like going directly through the engines). The wings should llok harder, or anything else softer. You should shorten the engines, it’s just way out of balance right now. And you might want to consider how this thing would land or dock on.

The engines are that size on purpose actually…as I mentioned in my first post. The other versions will have shorter ones, and I haven’t finished adding the details to them yet, but thankyou for the suggestion. About the wings, the inner set I really like, but the out set I’m no so sure about. I’m thinking about adding something to them or changing the shape slightly.

Made the engines a little shorter…added guns…a couple minor tweaks here and there. Taking my time with it.
