Okay I was messing around and I found out that its possible to install Blender on my USB Flash Drive and it works…I haven’t tried everything to see if it works but general modelling, animation, and rendering work fine…
Best part is yet to come…
…if you set up your preferences to contain texture path & temp etc…to
a local dir on your usb disk - you can work cross-platform on any
machine - Linux, Windows & Mac (provided that the binaries for
these platforms are on your usb key).
Now that’s true freedom right there!
Can you install proggys on an USB stick?
Now THAT’s what I call liberty for the people.
Let’s hope Blender stays as small in size as it is now
ive been trying to figure this one out, mind posting how you did it?
Yeah it is brilliant, i have had it working from my n-gage for ages. Nice to have when school gets a little boring
I’ve just downloaded this version : MS Windows Zip, Python 2.4, 98/ME/2000/XP insted of the install version, then you can just lay it down on your USB key.
:o Doh! now i feel a little stupid for not thinking about the zip version. thanks!
This brings up something else. Many people have a school computer lab that doesn’t let them install programs, but alots them a folder and, say, 100MB. While you cannont install blender on such a computer with the installer, if you just download the zip file and unzip it in “your” folder, it will run perfectly.
Zach: hehe, no problem.
