Use Displace modifier for faces

Hi, I wanted to ask if there’s a way to use the displace modifier for faces only so it doesn’t displace each Vertice of the faces selected here but rather displace the height of the individual hexagons.

You could do it this way:

  • Create a plane, subdivide it, give it a Displace modifier with a Cloud texture, animate it:

  • Create a small plane, subidivide it a bit, in Edit mode select all and assign a group, give your plane a Shrinkwrap modifier with the first plane as Target:

  • Create your hexagonal object, give it a Copy Location constraint with the small plane as Target, and choose the group you’ve created:

  • Link-duplicate both the small plane and the hexagonal object, shift R to repeat the duplication, play the animation:

it makes the objects go up and down though, and not only their top face, I don’t know if this is what you want

It’s okay since you won’t be able to see the bottom anyways, i want to make them come out of fog that covers the bottom
