Using a background plate (animated) to light my scene

I’m asking here for some general help with a lighting setup.

I have a timelapse that I shot and I would like to match the lighting from it to light up some leaves and trees I want to add to the foreground.

How should I approach this? Should I plug in the timelapse animation as an animated world node (even though it’s not a HDR) or search for a HDRi that closely resembles is and animate that to match the light movement?

The second approach is probably how I would/will go about this, but I’m wondering if I can still use the plate that I have somehow to project any kind of light towards my trees since they have a translucent effect in the shader. Anything to help match the lighting at all.

Any advice on how to approach this light setup?
