using bump maps or normal maps

im just a newbie…

can you please help me…

im trying to create an object without even manipulating the cube… meaning no need of extruding and so on and so forth… just to create an object… all i want to do is to make a skin and wrapped it on to the cube then with the use of bump mapping or normal maps i could create and illusion of shadows and effects of lighting…

the problem is…i dont know how to used it…:frowning:

Here’s how.

(^^ boldface is a link to a tutorial.) Welcome to BlenderArtists.

i wanted that the skin will do the trick for me…pllllllllsssssss help…

because i need to create a low poly object…

how about adding photoshop images

thanks…nice meeting you sir…

A bump map will only get you so far. Yes it makes the object’s more realistic, but in the end, a cube with a bump map is still a cube…with a bump map. the link provided by orinico is perfect for what you want to accomplish.

Just add a texture and select image from the texture type, then import (click load) your image in…tweak up your settings until your happy, and viola…you have an image as a bump map.

Guy’s gotta sleep sometime! Have some patience…
