Using compositor on linked or embedded objects

Hello,

I am new to the forum and very new to blender, so I hope this isnt too much of a noobish question.

I have created numerous objects and am slowly building a library for use in future scenes.
If I need an object in a scene, I either append or link a group, then place it to suit.

I have come across a problem, where I have an object that contains spots and emmission planes.
I’d like to modify these objects in the compositor e.g. adding blur, glare etc, but as the objects are groups, they are not available.
I have tried doing the compositing in the original blend file, but the render layers arent available in the new scene when linking or grouping.

Could anyone advise what I am doing wrong?

I could be wrong but I don’t think that render layers are scene linked? Are they global settings? Perhaps you must reconstruct them for each rendering.
