Using different shaders on the same mesh

Hopefully this is the right part of the forum to ask this question.

Is it possible to use a different shader on the same mesh? I’m creating a sword and I made the leather handle grip part of the mesh but everything else about the sword will have a raytrace mirror material on it. Do I need to change this strategy or is there a way to apply a shader specifically to part of the mesh?

Yes, it’s possible, you can do it two ways that I know of…
One way is assigning a different matterial to vertices, like in this tutorial

Another method would be to use stencil maps, like in this tutorial

They both have their own uses, in this case, the former I think would probably work the best.
