Let’s say that you have made a blender animation, and you want to have a soundtrack for it. As a good rule of thumb, should you just stay away from using any songs from real artists, or could you use say a song from a C.D. that you own, and put a notice in the credits that the music is not for public use, or something to that effect?
Songs on a cd are from “real artists” as well.
Owning the CD does not give you the right to use the song in a work of yourself, and you’re being hypocritical if you say the song is not for public use as you do so yourself.
It’s illegal, but no-one will sue you if you use a soundtrack on an animation to show others, though. If you’re making profit from it, THEN they’ll sue you.
I don’t mean to be hypocritical or anything, I just want to make sure that someone won’t “sue my pants off” as the saying goes. That answers my question, though, about if I’m not making a profit. I’ll just have to re-word my warning.
