USS Enterprise A

I have started work on the USS Enterprise A.

Currently working on the primary hull.

Laying out the primary hull shape and grid line layout as seams. These will be indented into the hull once I am happy that it’s accurate.

I have tried boolean on the windows - but they don’t come out very clean at all. Loads of long tris, which give ugly shading artefacts.

Can anyone offer any tips. I have tried bevelling the opening and also tried the bevel shader node too - neither help all that much.

After your Boolean, add a weighed normals modifier

Wow - it was that simple. Cheers. Looks super clean now.

Just a quick materials test for the primary hull - needs more work, but just scoping out the concept for getting the aztec pattern and irridecence.

This is looking good so far. Can’t wait to see more progress on this. Enterprise A was nice looking ship and this seems pretty accurate, based on my memory.

I see Tek, I like!

Which plans do you use? Or are you eye-balling it?

Anyway, best of luck with that project!

I’m using blueprints off the Cygnus X1 website - particularly the model builder plans by Big Jim Slade (the 2015 version 3.0 ones) as they are the most detailed and contain very accurate measurements, profiles etc.

One aspect I haven’t been able to find good references for so far is the hull plating/aztec patterns.

I have found websites that sell decal kits and paint masks for the physical kits (like the Polar Lights 1/350 scale kit) - and have found a few patterns here and there (mostly for the primary hull), but I have yet to find a full set online that cover the whole ship. I may have to eyeball them based on images and videos of the studio models etc.

But that is way down the line at this stage - I want to get the structure right first
