Hello,
this is my latest project. The goal was to design a believable spaceships. Vent your comments and crits. I especially need advice on the textures.
Here’s a picture of the side view of the ship

Thx and greetz, Fritz.
Hello,

Beautiful work so far, texturing looks great! how much more of the ship has yet to be built?
The picture is showing 1/3 of the total length of the spaceship. So it’s going to be a lot longer than the parts showed in the pic.
Thx and greetz, Fritz.
The modeling and texturing is very good.
However, you might want to change the windows from the simple faces to actual windows with rooms behind them. The rooms don’t need much inside them, even some textures are enought. It will give the ship much better effect, especialy while in motion.
its looking awesome! i think that you need to make the light in the back windows (is it light? or is it just white?) a bit less bright white ans maybe yellower and duller. also there are still some planes that dont have the texture on them.
but thats just my person thoughts
Thx for the advice guys! Dunno about the modelling of the rooms. It is a good idea ofcourse but it’s a waste of time IMO since the spaceship will be rendered from a distance so you would barely notice the cockpit behind the windows.
Thx and greetz, Fritz.
Its not about the content of the room, its about the feel of 3dimonsionality it will create, especiasly in a moving shot. Give it a try. Just place a box behind the windows and place a lamp inside it, then make the windows transparent.
It will add a lot to the felt realism to the ship.
FritzX, from a graphic standpoint, I am most impressed by the realistic appearance of your spacecraft.
As a scientific side issue, the spacecraft does appear to follow the unfortunate “Confusing-a-spaceship-with-an-airbus” school of spacecraft design. If you are not interested in strict scientific accuracy, you can safely ignore this. Nobody will notice.
(I know that your front does bear a vague similarity to the Discovery from the movie 2001, however careful viewing of that movie will reveal the front windows are actually in the ceiling of the control room. Go here: http://www.projectrho.com/rocket/rocket3p.html and scroll down to “Discovery”)
Thx for the advice nyrathwiz, but my spaceship doesn’t need to follow the scientific rules, I made it from my imagination. I will bear in mind though that the “airbus-as-a-spacecraft” design isn’t the best way to approach the modelling of a spaceship.
Thx and greetz, Fritz.
The texture is great, the ship itself is also cool. Could we seem some wires, please?
looks awesome, but please change the background colour
Thx for the comments. I left the background unchanged on purpose so that you can see the ship properly. Later on I will add a background with nebulae stars planets,… I’ll post a wire this evening.
Thx and Greetz, Fritz.
Here’s a wire:

Greetz, Fritz.
the wire is really outstanding!
good work, waiting for the rest
Check it out! It’s very good. I always wanted to go into space.
Thx guys! I’ll try to post an update ASAP.
Greetz, Fritz
Here’s an update: I’ve added some detail and a specular map. I’ll make the windows transparant later on.

Greetz, Fritz.
that looks so incredibly cool…I wanna fly it. Now.
A beauty! Love the textures, are you using lscm?
@ Cativo: I’ve used the lscm method to unwrap the round parts of the ship. The rectangle shapes are unwrapped with the archimap unwrapper.
