UV artifacts when using mirror modifier

So this is odd.

The mirror modifier of course produces together with the subsurf modifier some stretching along the mirror edge.
Makes sense.

What does not make sense is when you turn on mirror UV as well the grid image works fine, but the texture I made is wonky crazy. When I turn UV mirror off then this texture is fine but the UV grid image is distorded.

Any idea how this is supposed to work?

Here is a Blend file if you want to check it out:
CloudApp

My hope was that with cushion etc you can model half texture half and use the mirror to blend in
the other side ?!

You men this orange line in the middle, right? where is it?
Indeed what a weird behavior.

In the Subsurf modifier, disable the “Subsurf UV” button.
I’m not sure what it is used for in that case, but it does something very bad to the UV if i apply it.

Good tip - that helped actually.

Oh I must be blind.
I always disable it.
This should be disabled by default.
LOL

Michalis hahaha kinda sad that I did not think about this option as a pure random thing to test as well
and was too focused on thinking the solution would be with the mirror tool …
