UV editing: isle tear off and selection sync

Hi there,

two workflow things that i want to achieve concerning UV editing:

First, i want to ‘tear off’ uv isles, is this possible? So what i found out, if i unwrap a object and then decide i want a certain part in a own island, i can select the polygons with selection view sync enabled and then reproject/unwrap that selection to get it in a own isle. While this is acceptable, knowing how other software solves this, it is kinda cumbersome.

Is there no way to - like for example one other software does: set a check box ‘tear off’ and then every time you move polygons, they are made to a new island - or at least have something like the separate command in uv editing, which makes your current selection in a new isle?

Second, is there a way to synchronize selection with editing view when i select isles? I know that i can synchronize selection in general, but neither Ctrl+L, nor island selection mode does work then. I want so select a UV island and then have it selected in editing 3d view, is this possible?

Well, first question is answered, watching the wonderful car modeling and texturing tutorial from cgmasters i got the solution presented on a silver tablet  - the y key was what i was searching for in question 1

Second, is there a way to synchronize selection with editing view when i select isles? I know that i can synchronize selection in general, but neither Ctrl+L, nor island selection mode does work then. I want so select a UV island and then have it selected in editing 3d view, is this possible?
A possible workaround:
In the uv/image editor window select all the points then UVs / Seams from Islands
Select a point in an island and in the 3d view in Face Select Mode press Ctrl+L to select that island
