UV image map trouble

[SUB]I am a beginner with blender and I am having troubles mapping an image on an object correctly.

I am using a RGB .png image with the background cut out, however when I have been mapping this image onto an object I cannot seem to figure out how to take the black negative background color away from the image as its mapping in the space I am placing it. I just want it to match the color of the object I am placing it on.

Anyone have any advice?[/SUB]

Use the alpha of the texture as the factor in mixing the texture with the background colour. The mapping node is there to stop the texture tiling
