UV Map a Bezier Object?

I seem to be ok for UV Mapping a plane. But what if I want to UV map a Bezier curve I have as an object?

I can not get the mapping menu to show up when I hit the ‘u’ button. I am guessing that it only will work if I make my object into a mesh? But if I do that, I can’t go back and don’t want to brake up my stuff into a mesh.

Is there any workaround for this?

The options are:

  • automatic curve UV mapping which maps to generated texture coordinates (visible when rendered)
  • convert to mesh
  • curve deform modifier to get a mesh follow the curve

The problem with automatic UV’s is that it follows the curve resolution and handles. Even UV’s will require a mesh.
