uv map not mapping?

I recently went from blender version 2.74 to 2.64 in order to model for a program coded with a old version of python. Upon running some tests on the addons meant for this program. I ran in to a problem I never encountered and the faces/surfaces clip over each other in the image window. I did it the casual way, select sides, mark seams, uv map. But then I get this cluttered mess.


Baby cakes, I need your help. This is beginning to unnerve me. :c

No blend file supplied so how are we to know anything about your unwrapping or unwrap method ?

Do you see differences between 2.74 and 2.64 using the same model and exactly the same unwrap options
