UV Mapping a Torus?

I have a somewhat distorted torus - and I need to apply a texture to it. Does anyone have any clue as to how to map it? I just can’t seem to figure out any way to do it. I kind of know intuitively what I want the Unwrap to look like, but I can’t seem to, well, DO it.

I tried all sorts of unwraps including wings’ AutoUV with little luck.

also do you want to know how uv mapping works or how to unfold the mesh?
