UV mapping oddity

i am trying to map a texture to a low poly game model i am creating. the UV texture shows up fine in the 3d window, just the way had textured it. but when i render it a portion of it is white. see pic below:
(i am only concerned with the cockpit, the body has a different UV map applied to it)

the blue area on the cockpit is correct, and so is everything else except for the white area, it is almost as if it isassigning a completely different portion of the UV map to that area.

Just a guess but have you tried flipping the normals just for the affected faces?
