UV mapping only works for cubes

Hi,
I’m having great trouble UV mapping. I read the tutorials and they all work fine for cubes. However, if I try to UV map a different shape I have problems: for instance a pyramid.
I select all faces in UV face select mode, then I press U and do LSCM and I get a 4 slender triangles in a diamond shape in the UV image editor. None of the triangles are the correct shape.
If I select only one face sometimes the correct shape appears in the UV image editor, but I can never get all faces to load in correctly.
I have another problem with the “save to face layout” script. This does not export the face correctly. What I get is one triangle with the slender pyramid superimosed on top of it.
It’s not that I want to texture map a pyramid. I’m just trying to figure out how the tool works so I can texture map a human figure.

did you create seams?

for a pyramid you’d want one on one corner edge, and 3 of the 4 edges on the bottom

Thanks z3r0 d!
That worked… but now I have another problem:
I can’t get the the Textured draw mode to work. It renders fine with the UV mapping, but the pyramid shows up as white in Textured draw mode

I believe the texture needs to be a multiple of 64 pixels with both the x and y resolution matching. Such as 128 X 128 …

Also, you need to apply the texture with the UV-Image editor to get it to show.

My tga file is 512x512 and I apply using UV image editor, but it still does not show

maybe you could post the .blend

Oh my God, I see what I was doing wrong now. I thought you choose texture mode by selecting the “Texture paint” option in the same place where you select “edit mode”… now I see it’s actually in the option box next to it.
Thanks very much for the help!
cheers,
