UV Mapping Texture Names

Hello Everyone,

I have UV mapped a cabinet, and have used the same image for different areas on the same object, as well as for other objects. For example, I might use the same wood texture for the legs as well as the top (same object), and a drawer front (different object).

I notice that in Blender the textures get named something like base.jpg and base.jpg.001 etc. This is fine for blender, but if I pack and unpack, and want to use the objects in other programs, the texture files get written with .001 extensions, and the mtl file also references files with .001 extensions.

Is there a way to prevent this? Or, will I have to manually change the texture names in side Blender?
