how come uv mapping is so hard?
Because you havent yet spent the time to learn how to do it, once you know how to do things they become easier.
sorry to say - it is the nature of the beast.
Blender has advanced enough features - even a few more new features in the next release.
If you post a blend I could look at explaining what to do for you.
