Right… not sure if this needs to be in the complete noob section…
I’m having some real issues with UV mapping… whenever I do any mapping and come out of blender it doesn’t seem to save any of the coordinates or anything… I’ve done it in the past and I’m sure I’m doing it the right way…
I spent about 4hrs putting seams in to unwrap… I didn’t have time to do anything immediately so I saved the blend file. When I came back to it nothing had been kept seam wise… DAMN annoying…
So I tried to use the smartuv function which more or less split eveything down for a map for me… I saved again and started working on the map in photoshop…
When I tried to load it back in none of the coordinates were there so it looked a mess…
This is really winding me up and loads of people have been talking about how blender has really good uvmapping…
is there any videos that dumb this process down so that I can get whatever I’m missing to sink in…
oh… I forgot to add that I was unrwapping a gun which was a number of different parts which I attached together to make one object… might that have had something to do with it???
blendercookies.com has a section on texturing under the tutorials heading (homepage).
If you are pressing Ctrl E and marking seams and they show up. Also if you unwrap and see your UVs in the UV/image editor then it sounds like you are doing things right.
Sounds more like you are not saving right. Maybe you are saving the file in a different location so you have two blender files with the same name in different folders on your cpu. Maybe you are loading up the wrong one. Obviously just a guess but something isn’t right with this as it should be saving both seams and UVs without problems.
Show an example. Do a screencast showing exactly what you are doing.
In 99.9% of cases these kinds of things are down to the user not knowing what they are doing so we need to see you work.
It might be an idea to save by going to file and save as. The longer way, just to make sure you are doing it right. Plus double, and even tripple check what you are doing. Generally what you are saying should not be happening so there is a mistake in how you are doing things somewhere.
hmmm… had to take a step back for a couple of days as i was getting rather annoyed at it… Just gone through the blender cookie tutorial and seems pretty much what i was doing… will attempt once more to see if ican work out where i was going wrong…
