No matter what I do I can’t seem to get rid of a nasty stretch under the character’s eye, see the square between his nose and eye? I have tried to minimize stretch and tried to scale the faces with proportional editing nothing i do seem to fix that area. I don’t think there is anything wrong with my unwrap, I don’t know what to do. Anyone have any ideas when faces are stretching?
Distortions are unavoidable when you map curved surfaces (concave/convex), so you should try to subdivide the UV map in smaller isles as much as possible.
As you can see the squares are also larger in the middle of the face: it means that projection of all that central polygons is compressed too much, and that is because they are connected with too many other polygons all around.
You could put some seams under the chin for instance, and put the seams surrounding the face closer to the centre; you’ll never get any exact solution but you can reduce distortion.
Hope you can understand enough my bad English, sorry.
