UV Texturing questions

Hello,

I’am new to Blender and modeling stuff but i like it. I manage to create a model that i’am satisfied with and now i want to give it a little color so it looks nice.

I manage to UV unwrap the model and manage to paint on it in Texture Paint. So i was wondering if it is possible to paint on the model and use layers like in Photoshop?
So i can draw a texture and then on a other layer draw some color on-top of it. and if i need to change something i don’t need to repaint everything only on the layer that i need to change.

It would be so much easier if that would be possible and paint the model in Photoshop would be too hard because the UV unwrap is not that great.

I’am using Blender 2.55 r33390M

Here is the basic setup / sequence for texture painting in 2.49. It should be essentially the same for 2.55.

In Edit Mode, Mesh tab, you can add more than one UV Texture on to your model. When you create your first UV map, it will show up as UVTex at the top. Every time you hit “New” UV window go blank and ready to accept new UV map and texture associated with it. Do so. This layer you created is called UVTex 001 and lists under the first map layer. Next layer will be called UVTex 002. In this image, I added 3 different layers.

If you are interested in just over painting and blending different textures you probably un wrap it 3 times exactly the same way but loading 3 different texture image on each layer. Than go to Texture Paint mode, set the brush opacity less than 1. Pick Clone / Clone Layer. Select layer texture to clone from, and to paint to. Look at this video tutorial.

The interface in 2.55 is alott different so i can’t manage to find the options for UV texture layers. When i add a new layer and assign a image to it with transparency it will still only show one layer at the time. Only the selected layer is visible at the time.
