UV unwrap extremely distorted!


I’ve been searching around for a while now trying to find a solution for distorted unwrapping. I’ve come across a few places that talk about distortion but its far smaller a scale than I’m seeing here. I’ve tried to delete half of my mesh, mirror x, delete doubles, and unwrap again with no luck. I’ve checked all my normals and they’re facing the correct direction (out). When i use the “smart” unwrap the mesh isn’t distorted like this. It seems like parts of the left side are either ridiculously huge and distorted or so small in comparison, I can’t see them. I’ve also tried restarting blender a couple of times and tried using minimize stretch which made it look worse.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

On the left hand toolbar, are you using angle based or conformal unwrapping? Try using conformal.

Hello, sorry it’s been a while, I gave it a break because i was so frustrated and I’ve been on vacation. I’ve tried looking up how to change to conformal unwrapping, but i’ve found nothing for blender 2.6. I’ve read through everything on the tool shelf, scopes, and properties of the 3d view and the UV editor and found nothing for changing to conformal.
