I’ve created a complex object that has cylindrical sections that have raised ribs. I need them to have an image texture on those sections. I’ve put in a seam and unwrapped each area in turn, but the unwraps are curved. See image below of one set of rings. In each ring set I’ve created, the diameter of the rings decrease, and the curve of the unwrap is more pronounced. Editing the individual vertices would be a huge time waste, with no way I can see to keep the proportions accurate. Is there an automated way to have Blender square out the unwrapped areas so the image texture will not be warped?
I did a quick unwrap to a similar situation and I got a nice straight line , this is how I placed my seem .
I do not know where and how you placed your seem , but if you are still getting the curve , make sure you apply the scale , rotation …etc. to your object before unwrapping and you should get better results .
This looks like the best approach, but there is no audio, nor any other indication on how the creator of this video accessed the controls to square off the lines of the initial face. What is the command for that?
Scale to 0 along an axis (XY = UV), or use controls in weld/align menu which is accessed from UV menu -> weld/align, or W. Align auto option was used in the video.
