UV Unwrap to Specific UDIM Tile?

In v4.2.1 I’m doing a complicated UV unwrap (a human skeleton), over 70 objects onto maybe 16 UDIM tiles, no overlapping. I have 20 tiles set up (the first 4 are being used by the skull, unwrapped by someone else), and I have a rough plan of which objects’ islands will go on which tiles. I’m starting with the vertebrae (most challenging) on tile 1007.

In the UV editor I have tile 1007 selected in the Active Tile Index list (N-sidebar > Image tab > UDIM tiles ). I have the 2D cursor centered in tile 1007. The initial unwrap for each object keeps happening in tile 1001.

I can drag it over to the tile it’s supposed to be in (1007 this time), pin some of it, and the rest of the unwraps for that island happen in that tile. If need be, I’ll do that 70+ times for this. But I thought there was a way to get an object to unwrap into a specific UDIM tile, which would make this some easier. What am I missing?

Without Addon, all UVs are aligned to the first tile.

As for the alignment method, once the UV is aligned with the first tile, you can modify the coordinate value and move it.

You can change the coordinates of the first tile to 0.XX (Tile Number.UV Coordinate) 1.XX and send it to the second tile.

Add…

UV-Packer Addon allows you to automatically align to tiles.

However, there seems to be no function to align the desired UV to the desired tile.
I think we should use coordinates to place the UV in the desired tile.

Individually, 70+ times. ::sigh:: Well, I knew it was gonna be a slog.

UVPackmaster has this functionality

Which is probably great for people able to a) make online purchases, and b) able to dedicate $44 for a volunteer project.

It’s well worth $44, especially as it solves your problem here, but if it’s not in your budget, I get that

I hide the mesh I don’t want to deal with and unwrap the stuff I do in the first UDIM, then select all there and move X by 1, 2, or whatever. I admit I haven’t worked extensively with UDIM tiles as much as others, just the basics.

Yep, that’s what I’m doing, 70+ times for this. Although the first four UDIM tiles are being used by something else, so I’d be starting with UDIM tile 5 if I was doing the ribcage first. I’m working on the lower vertebrae, so I’m in UDIM tile 7.
