UV unwrapping: cleaning up necessary?

Hello,

A while ago i modelled a gun with alot of details. I am now in the process of unwrapping all the parts but it’s very time consuming. It is taking so long because I manually clean up all the UV’s. By that I mean that I am making all edges that are straight on the model, straight on the UV’s. Aligning all these UV’s takes ages but is it really necessary?
And if I really have to go through this process, is there any way to speed it up?
I actually hope you guys are going to say it is necessary because if it’s not I would have wasted alot of time xD

well thanks for the info in advance

I don´t think it is strictly necessary but it will make it easier if you are going to paint your own textures. To speed it up, select the vertices you are trying to align, use the keyboard shortcut “w”, and “Align X” or “Align Y”.

Well that’s exactly what I’m planning to do so I guess I’l just go on with this
I already found out about aligning X or Y but thanks anyway

Well back to work I guess!

This is more of a texturing topic than a modeling one. Moved.
