UV Unwrapping problems with models which has many vertices

Hi there.
I am a new comer in blender. I am now working with a model of industrial pipes which have no textures but only materials.
I want to bake the rendered result with shadows into one texture.

But when I am unwrapping the model, 200k vertices come to me! It takes 10mins to unwrap but finally the baking result is not so good with seams.

Any guy can help me? I just want to show the feeling of mental with textures in the model but pure color cannot help.

Thanks a lot.

I am betting you downloaded the model with a very high poly count. Try duplicating the mesh with the Pipe Joints addon. This can be activated in the user preferences under addons. It is fundamental to know how to model and get around in Blender before You move to baking shadow maps and such. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah, this model is provided by an industry, and I need to learn how to bake textures for high poly count models as soon as possible.
Would you please tell me how to use the addon Pipe Joints to Duplicate the mesh? I cannot find instructions in the wiki.

Thanks a lot.

If you activate the addon by checking the box next to it, in the user preferences, you can add a fitting to your scene with SHIFT + A. under Mesh, hover on Pipe Joint and chose from the list. You will need to edit the mesh to you liking, but that is how you get to the addon.
