uv unwrapping subsurfed object


I have an asset which is subsurfed at lvl 2. Ive uv unwrapped it but where the seams are, there is a nasty distortion.

Ive made sure there is no stretching and the unwrap is clean. After unwrapping, i hit f6 and selected the subsurf option and it still messes up, in fact the uv screen starts to show mad stretching even though the pieces are fine. Any Idea?

I really don’t want to have to apply the subsurf mod, it slows down the scene and just looks too busy.

hmmm, i was trying to keep it as low poly as i could, but i retopo’d it with more geometry and it seems to be better
