Vancouver Film School ***Update on pg2***

Hey all,

Not sure if im posting this information too prematuraly, but here it is anyway…

For the last 3 years I have enterd the VFS Scholarship Competition, obviously for 3D Animation. And this year, VFS has contacted me twice in the last 2 days saying that they want me to start immidiatly on January 5th. They said that im still in the running to win and have a good chance at the full scholarship, but even if i dont win the full scholarship they want to give me one for $10,000, so i will have enough to cover the tuition and just enough for the bare essentials (cheep accomidation, kraft dinner…).

So yeah, im madly filling out student loan forms right now, as well as a student line of credit via the royal bank, and then i have to send it all to my contactee at the film school who is goign to be the go between to try and get me the money to start on the 5th…

I’m pretty excited and scatterbrained right now, the idea of starting film school in about 3 weeks and having to pack up and move to Vancouver, firstly staying in hostles until i find a room mate etc…

Crazy crazy, but I knew all those many hours pouring myself into Blender would pay off. Its still not 100%, but there is a good chance that Blender just scored me a scholarship to film school.

Anywayz, i could bla bla for ages, but just HAD to post this info!!! Will post more if anyone cares to hear how it all goes… :wink:

I also forgot to add that the reason why they want to make sure i get in the school as soon as possible, is because Electronic Arts Games is looking to hire 600-1000 ppl next year, and VFS has to provide them with a heap of students. So its quite possible i will have empolyment with EA right after graduation!!!

What a shocker the last few days have been, im so excited!!! :wink:

Thanks for all your replies and well wishes, it means alot to me!!! It’s looking even a little more promising now, as i “MAY” have a co-signer for the loans so that I can start here in like 3 weeks. As well, an uncle said he could lend me like $800-$1000 to go down and get situated, i would have to pay him back when i get the loan money, but still its a way down!!!

Man, i so want to spend my next year there, doing nothing but training and working towards making the best portfolio i can, most likley steered towards game models, so that i can craft it to be appealing to EA Games when i grad!!!

Hmmm, i feel like im ranting now, so will cut it short, just wanted to say thanks to me friends and mates and let you know how it’s all going!!!

PS: A situation update: Loan forms filled and sent out, so now i just need to wait. And have been keeping in contact with the school, my seat is reserved and was told that if any of my loans dont go through they would help me with other financial options, just as long as i get down and start. And im still in the running for the full scholarship, so im praying hard for that!!! :wink:

Im definatly happy, but keerrriipes the ANXIETY!!! I want to go NOW!!! LOL!!! :wink:

It’s great to see you fulfilling a dream. I’m at a bit of a crossroads myself in terms of what I want to do with my life. I’m going to be finishing a CIS (Computer Information Systems) diploma early next year, but I think I want to do something more creative. Who knows, I may even end up at VFS before too long. Some of their programs look really interesting, and it’s not too far from where I live.

Definatly consider 3D education after you do your CIS, if your interested in doing 3D for a career it will help you leaps and bounds!!! And VFS is a pretty good school from what i hear, and most of their grads get recruited to work right after they finish, i belive the employment rate for their grads is %98.6 if i remember correctly from the info packages they have sent me.

Hey all,

Just an update on the VFS situation…

I didnt wind up winning the scholarship, but i made it really close. They did offer me a $2700.00 "travel burssary, which will help out. But the rest im taking on loan, and i’m in the hole deep now, but i DO get to attend the 3D Animation and Digital Effects course starting on Jan 5th!!!

So, even tho i didnt win, im still going to film school and im so excited and scared and nervious and happy. This is quite easily the most wonderfull stress i’ve ever experienced!!! :wink:

Anywayz, just wanted to let you all know. I will drop by the forums once and a bit to say hi and keep up with the happenings in the Blender world!!! :wink:

lol yeah sounds like me. i missed out on a 2000 scholarship, but they liked me enough that they bent the rules and added another set of $500 one off payments.

so i kinda know how you feel, both happy and sad LOL

as for film school that is very cool.

Well, don’t feel bad. At least you are going. And what’s school without a lot of debt? :wink:

VFS is a world wide recognized school dude. So just do your best and all will fall into place down the road. Good luck with it!
