Probably not of much interest to most people, but 24 sailors are currently racing solo from France around Iceland and back in their IMOCA60s as a qualifier for the Vendee Globe in 2024
I was very curious to see why these athletes on the right were going eastwards. So I just went to ventuskydotcom to compose the wind map on top of the race map and it looks like this.
Looks like things are about to change.
Looking at the tracker, over on the right bar there’s an icon to switch the winds on without going to an external site. In these races the sailors have to do their own navigation, no help from land based teams.
The menu on the left gives access to a newsfeed which is interesting and occasionally discusses weather.
