… or Verona, Italy in the background with the ivy covered pillar as the main focus
Any critiques? Suggestions? Thanks!

Is it that bad, or is the title just scaring people away?
I am not competent enough to offer a detailed critique. I wish I could do as well as you did.
Maybe the composition is a bit weak. 3/4 of the image is out of focus… the eye is not sure what it should look at.
Technically, it’s very, very good. Just work on the photographic composition. Add an object in the foreground, maybe…
If the image would be the other way round focused it would be nice I guess - but thats personal preference.
This way without knowing the title its some plant with too much vignette and a blurry colorblob in the back =)
It also lacks any kind of reference regarding the size. The thing could be a stone fencepole, or a massive ancient column.
So yeh… composition needs work.
But the overall idea is really nice.
you can’t pretend to be answered between 00:05 and 05:36, people has the insane habitude to sleep sometimes :P.
so… mmh… I have to be really bad…
first: i don’t understand where the light are coming from… on the column there is a massive light source peeping out on the right borders and casting shadows on the carved zones… but the leafs doesn’t respect the same light&shadow… on the contrary, upper leafs appears lighted by a front-left origin… sometimes, in post-render you have to adjust contrast and illumination with image processing (or with render nodes w/ blender)
second: i hate the “no deep” zone on the bottom… leafs appears daubed and them make me no natural life feeling.
ps. too much blur, on the background, or too much smooth for a realistic depth of field, it must be a little bit more progressive, giving me the illusion of a 3d optical out of focus zone.

Ah, you must be a european - the world doesnt revolve around you.
Nice render, the vignette is too strong, and its very irritating that you cant see the background… but otherwise i agree with the rest of the crits - and the shadows are too light
Okay, I’ll make an attempt to fix all of those things. @ aperrone, yeah, well, I’m American, so it definitely wasn’t that late where I was at the time
LOL… damn spherical earth!
