Verse - painting normal map using node

I don’t know if this is possible, but one workflow is to paint bump maps using GIMP, then when you save the file, Blender updates the image, and passes it into the normal map node (not released yet), and you are able to see the normal map model in the 3D viewport.

My guess is that GIMP has to save to PSD, as Blender can’t handle GIMP file format?
