Vertex Group error

I have been having some issue with placing object via particle system with vertex groups.

Attached in an example. I have two vertices selected and grouped. But one of each of the plant objects is defaulting to a position not selected in the vertex group. I have checked for duplicated vertices, there are none.

Simple test with cubes and a plane using Blender 2.77a

You can see the cube not going to the assigned vertex.

Edit: This was a bug and has already been reportedly fixed
